2008/2009 Season - Jason Cooper

Castle Combe Saloon Car Championship

Class D - Ford Fiesta SB1400

In 2008 it was the first year of tin-top racing for Jason, having come from TKM Extreme. The donor car was a Mk5 Fiesta Zetec-S but running in class D meant a drop from 1600cc to 1400cc. The engine was taken care of by Sandy Brown Racing Engine Technology and the cage was fitted by Colin Satchell @ Satchell Engineering. Maniflow designed and built the exhaust system to Sandy's spec and paint was completed by Neil Dolman. Everything else was prepped by Jason and Andy @ TrackNutz.

In the first year Jason managed 4 class wins, 5 class second places, 4 class fastest laps, 7 class poles and 1 driver of the day. He finished 2nd in both the Class D and Overall Championship. Jason also received the Michael Dowsett young driver of the year award, was nominated for Castle Combe Racing Club driver of the year and nominated in the Top 20 saloon drivers in the UK by Motorsport News.

In the winter months the car underwent further development in preparation to attack the 2009 season including further engine updates from Sandy. The IB5 gearbox benefitted from Quaife internals and a plated diff. Jason put his day job as a CAD Designer to good use and designed many components himself, including the stunning pedal box.

In only his second year he managed to take the overall crown and was dubbed the Castle Combe Saloon Car Champion. During the season he took 9 class wins, 8 class poles, 6 class fastest laps and 1 class lap record. He then received Castle Combe Driver of the Year and voted 12th in "the ones to watch" in Motorsport News Fast 50.
